Notes

'Bacchanal' Pacific bleeding heart (Dicentra formosa 'Bacchanal') is a perennial for borders, ground cover, and low maintenance beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist, loamy, clay, or chalky soil. It spreads by underground rhizomes and may go dormant by summer, so plant it between hosta and ferns. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Frances Williams hosta, Bladdernut, and Paul Scherer tulip.
