Notes

'Balzac' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Balzac') is a shrub for borders, perennial beds, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The flowers are double, so each bloom has many layers of petals. Auguste Dessert bred it in 1905. You can cut the blooms for a vase and enjoy them indoors.

Pairs well with Siberian iris, Star magnolia, Ostrich fern, and Black Parrot tulip.
