Notes

'Benfica' amaryllis (Hippeastrum 'Benfica') is a bulb for borders, containers, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. The dark purple-red blooms stand 12 to 24 inches tall, and M.K. Penning bred it. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Add it to a sunny spot for easy color.

Pairs well with Bishop of Llandaff dahlia, Fountain grass, and Tuberose.
