Notes

'Bess Pool' apple (Malus domestica 'Bess Pool') is a tree for the food garden and for fresh eating. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Pearson of Chilwell introduced it in 1824. The dense tree blooms in early to late spring and draws bees. It is not self-fertile, so plant a second apple nearby for pollination.

Pairs well with Raspberry, Wild geranium, Sedge, and American persimmon.
