Notes

'Black Shadows' peony (Paeonia 'Black Shadows') is a shrub for borders, cottage gardens, specimen planting, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. The reddish purple blooms have black centers and open in early to late spring. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Derek Irvine bred it.

Pairs well with Patriot hosta, Queen of Night tulip, David garden phlox, and The President clematis.
