Notes

'Bonfire' Japanese pieris (Pieris japonica 'Bonfire') is a shrub for borders, containers, specimen planting, and foundation plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy or loamy soil. It grows slowly into a dense, evergreen mound of 24 to 36 inches. The fragrant blooms attract bees and butterflies. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Japanese forest grass, Casa Blanca lily, and Buckeye Belle peony.
