Notes
'Burgundy Wine' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Burgundy Wine') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Dark red semi-double blooms open in early to mid spring and show yellow stamens in the center. Each stem carries one bud, and the stems are strong. Toichi Domoto bred it, and it first bloomed in 1987.
Pairs well with Wild ginger, Toad lily, Black Parrot tulip, and Blue Arrow Rocky mountain juniper.
