Notes

'Carstens' mugo pine (Pinus mugo 'Carstens') is a shrub for rock gardens, containers, borders, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and average to moist soil of most types. It grows slowly into a broad shape that reaches 12 to 24 inches tall and wide. Deer tend to pass it by. The evergreen needles stay on all year, and the plant tolerates drought and salt.

Pairs well with Limeglow creeping juniper, Blonde Ambition blue grama, and Mount Hood daffodil.
