Notes

'Charon' checkered lily (Fritillaria meleagris 'Charon') is a bulb for borders, cottage gardens, and rock gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to wet, sandy or loamy soil. The arching stems carry mallow-purple flowers with a black checkered pattern in early to late spring. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Plant the bulbs in drifts for the best show.

Pairs well with Cheerfulness daffodil, Big Daddy hosta, and Sedge.
