Notes

Chinese hosta (Hosta tardiva) is a perennial. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part to full shade and average moisture. Purple-violet flowers open in late summer and early autumn. The plant grows 12 to 24 inches tall and spreads 12 to 18 inches, so give each clump room to fill out.

Pairs well with Western maidenhair fern, Dog's tooth violet, and Rosy sedge.

Native range

Japan and China.
