Notes

'Rubens' clematis (Clematis Montana 'Rubens') is a vine for borders, containers, and privacy screens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. Pink spring flowers smell of vanilla, and a sunny spot boosts the perfume. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Victor Lemoine bred it.

Pairs well with Japanese maple, Indian grass, and Black Baccara rose.
