Notes

Climbing hydrangea (Hydrangea barbara) is a vine for privacy screens, shade gardens, rain gardens, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet, sandy or loamy soil. It climbs by rootlets and blooms only when climbing, and only on new wood. Deer rarely make it their first choice. Fragrant white flowers attract butterflies and bees.

Pairs well with Virginia sweetspire, Christmas fern, Cardinal flower, and Oakleaf hydrangea.
