Notes

Oriental spruce (Picea orientalis) is a tree for specimen planting, privacy screens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist soil. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. It grows slowly into a dense, green evergreen. Spring brings small brown, yellow, purple, and red blooms.

Pairs well with Eastern white pine, Witch hazel, and Little bluestem.

Native range

Central Asia, Asia, and Qinghai.
