Notes
'Freedom' apple (Malus domestica 'Freedom') is a tree for the food garden. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Grow it for fresh eating and culinary use, and pick the fruit late in the season. The white spring flowers attract bees, and you need a second apple tree nearby for pollination. The New York State Agricultural Experiment Station bred it in 1958.
Pairs well with High-bush blueberry, Irish moss, and Cinnamon fern.
