Notes

'Gigantea' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Gigantea') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Its fragrant, double, rose-pink blooms open in mid spring and age to light pink. The flowers are huge, but the stems are weak, so you can stake them. Jacques Calot bred it in 1860.

Pairs well with Goldsturm black-eyed Susan, Sedge, and Grape hyacinth.
