Notes

Golden spider lily (Lycoris aurea) is a bulb for borders, cut flowers, rock gardens, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. Yellow flowers with wavy edges open in late summer or autumn, and the strap-like leaves appear after the blooms fade. Bulbs resent disturbance, so plant them where they can stay put. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal.

Pairs well with Munstead lavender, Karl Foerster feather reed grass, and Christmas fern.

Native range

China, Japan, Burma, and Taiwan.
