Notes

Green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) is a tree for shade gardens, woodland settings, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows fast and can reach 50 to 70 feet tall, and its leaves turn yellow in fall. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. Male and female flowers grow on separate trees, and the winged fruits hang in clusters.

Pairs well with Northern red oak, Red twig dogwood, and Cinnamon fern.
