Notes

White ash (Fraxinus americana) is a tree for specimen planting and shade gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Its winged seeds attract song and game birds, and the leaves turn yellow and then purple in autumn. Give it plenty of sun if you want a full crown as it matures. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by.

Pairs well with White oak, Western sword fern, and Virginia rose.
