Notes

'Happy Spirit' astilbe (Astilbe rosea 'Happy Spirit') is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, shade gardens, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet, loamy soil. It forms a tidy clump with brown to copper and green foliage, and butterflies and bees visit the blooms. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Flowers come in orange, pink, purple, red, and white.

Pairs well with Columbine, Fire and Ice hosta, and Western sword fern.
