Heavy sedge (Carex gravida) is a grass for woodland gardens and meadow plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). It reaches up to 36 inches tall and bears green and brown flowers from late spring to early summer. In the wild it grows in prairies, ditches, swales, and open forests, usually on calcareous soil.
Pairs well with Switchgrass, Great blue lobelia, Cinnamon fern, and Pussytoes.
