Notes

'Helen' carnation (Dianthus 'Helen') is a perennial for borders, rock gardens, cottage gardens, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows 9 to 12 inches tall and wide, and it bears fragrant salmon flowers in spring and again in summer. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by. Butterflies and bees visit the blooms.

Pairs well with Silver sage, Lamb’s ear, and Blue fescue.
