Notes

'Hogyoku' Japanese maple (Acer palmatum 'Hogyoku') is a small tree for specimen, accent, and woodland gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil. It grows slowly into a broad shape, and its reddish-purple spring flowers draw bees and birds. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Give it room to spread.

Pairs well with Dogwood, Bluebell, and Shumard oak.
