Notes
'Hortmacodre' bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Hortmacodre') is a shrub for cut flowers, hedges, shade gardens, and foundation plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It blooms from early to late summer and grows at a rapid rate. It also tolerates salt. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.
Pairs well with June hosta, Aureola Japanese forest grass, Lady fern, and Solomon's seal.
