Notes
'Hortmahar' bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Hortmahar') is a shrub for cut flowers, cottage gardens, hedges, and shade gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Soft pink to cream flowers with green edges open from early to late summer and fade to soft green with blue tones in acidic soil. Deer tend to pass it by. It grows quickly and tolerates salt.
Pairs well with Autumn Frost hosta, Aureola Japanese forest grass, Lady fern, and Lenten rose.
