Notes

'Illinois' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Illinois') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Its flowers are carmine-red, so they stand out in a mixed border. You can cut stems to bring that rich color indoors. Goos & Koenemann introduced it in 1910.

Pairs well with Great blue lobelia, Christmas fern, and Grape hyacinth.
