Notes

'Iwato-kagura' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Iwato-kagura') is a shrub for borders, perennial beds, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The crimson or carmine-pink blooms open in early summer. They make bold cut flowers, so you can bring a few stems indoors. Give it space in the border so the woody stems can spread over the years.

Pairs well with Coralbells, Standing Ovation little bluestem, Carnaval De Nice tulip, and Polish Spirit clematis.
