Notes

'James' aster (Symphyotrichum 'James') is a perennial for pollinator gardens, meadows, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, clay soil. Purple flowers open in early to late summer and again in early to late autumn. Deer tend to pass it by. Butterflies, bees, and birds visit the blooms.

Pairs well with Big bluestem, False indigo, and Indian Summer rudbeckia.
