Notes
'Jappensha-ikku' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Jappensha-ikku') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Millet and Son bred it in 1924. The single, large flowers are bordeaux red and open in mid to late spring. The plant is medium size and spreads, so give it room.
Pairs well with Francee hosta, Sedge, and Grape hyacinth.
