Notes

'Jewel of Spring' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Jewel of Spring') is a shrub for borders, cut flower gardens, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Cream, semi-double, bowl-shaped flowers open from mid to late spring into early summer against dark green leaves. The stems are strong and the plant is vigorous. John W. and Dot M. McFarlane bred it, and it first bloomed in 1998.

Pairs well with Iris, Sum and Substance hosta, Prairie dropseed, and Grape hyacinth.
