Notes

Lilac (Syringa oblata) is a shrub for borders, hedges, specimen planting, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy or loamy soil. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. It bears fragrant, pinkish-lilac flowers in early to late spring that attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees.

Pairs well with Kansas peony, Picture tulip, and Western sword fern.
