Notes
'Lucky Star' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Lucky Star') is a perennial for borders, cut flower gardens, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The dark red, full double blooms open late and are not fragrant. Tall, slender, stiff stems hold the flowers, which are less than five inches across. Edward Auten, Jr bred it.
Pairs well with Showy milkweed, Ostrich fern, Picture tulip, and Pussytoes.
