Notes
Maidenhair spleenwort (Asplenium trichomanes) is a fern for rock gardens, shade gardens, containers, and woodland settings. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to moist soil of most types. Its dainty evergreen fronds grow in rosettes and have dark brown stems. Deer rarely make it their first choice. A spot sheltered from winter and early spring winds helps it.
Pairs well with Woodland phlox, Wintergreen, and Japanese forest grass.
Native range
Africa and Comoros.
