Notes

'Penwood' sweet gum (Liquidambar styraciflua 'Penwood') is a pyramidal tree for pollinator gardens and low maintenance landscapes. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. It grows at a rapid rate and has fragrant blooms that attract bees and birds. Once settled in, it is also drought tolerant.

Pairs well with Serviceberry, Wild bergamot, and Big bluestem.
