Notes

'Play With Fire' peony (Paeonia 'Play With Fire') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. The semi-double flowers are wine red with a darker center and show off bold stamens. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. John and Dot McFarlane bred it, and it blooms from early to late spring.

Pairs well with David garden phlox, Blue fescue, and Niobe clematis.
