Notes
Plumleaf azalea (Rhododendron prunifolium) is a shrub for borders, pollinator gardens, and shade gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes part sun or part shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer tend to browse other plants first. Orange-red to red, funnel-shaped flowers appear in clusters in early to late summer. Hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees visit the blooms.
Pairs well with Smooth hydrangea, Lady fern, Willow oak, and Goldenseal.
