Notes

'Purple Smoke' wild indigo (Baptisia 'Purple Smoke') is a perennial for borders, pollinator gardens, and low maintenance planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. Butterflies and bees visit the smoky violet flowers, and the plant also tolerates drought and salt.

Pairs well with Buffalo grass, Hyssop, and Lily.
