Notes

'Red October' hosta (Hosta 'Red October') is a perennial for shade gardens, borders, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average moisture. It bears fragrant lavender blooms from early to late summer, and bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds visit the flowers. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by. It also tolerates salt.

Pairs well with Western sword fern, Sedge, Yellow trout-lily, and Bowl of Beauty peony.
