Notes

Rhododendron (Rhododendron barbatum) is a shrub for borders, woodland gardens, and spring color. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average moisture. Red flowers open in early to late spring in dense, rounded heads. Older stems have peeling red-purple bark, and the glossy dark-green leaves have deeply indented veins. Give it a spot that is protected from hot afternoon sun and heavy winds.

Pairs well with Rose of sharon, Sitka spruce, and Asiatic jasmine.
