Notes

'Roman Spears' peony (Paeonia 'Roman Spears') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Its red single flowers open early on tall, upright stems that need no support. The pointed buds look like spears just before they open. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal.

Pairs well with Moonshine yarrow, Guacamole hosta, and Picture tulip.
