Notes

'Satan' peony (Paeonia 'Satan') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, specimen planting, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Samuel E. Wissing bred it from Minnie Shaylor and Otto Froebel. The large, vermilion red flowers sit on strong stems above dark blue-green leaves.

Pairs well with Curly Fries hosta, Sedge, Picture tulip, and Spotted joe-pye weed.
