Notes
Scaly blazing star (Liatris squarrosa) is a perennial for borders, pollinator gardens, and rock gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy or loamy soil. It is one of the earliest Liatris to bloom. Tuft-like, red-violet flower heads sit openly spaced along the top of each erect, unbranched stem. Butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees visit the blooms.
Pairs well with Lead plant, Blackhawks big bluestem, and Indian blanket.
