Notes

'Scarlet Emperor' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Scarlet Emperor') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It grows tall and upright, and the fragrant scarlet red, semi-double blooms open in early summer. Each stem carries one flower held well above the bush. John and Dot McFarlane bred it.

Pairs well with Rose, Switchgrass, and Garlic chives.
