Notes

'Sentinel' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Sentinel') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Its all red, Japanese type blooms are medium sized and sit well above the foliage. The tall, stiff stems hold the flowers upright. Edward Auten, Jr bred it.

Pairs well with Lanceleaf coreopsis, Obedient plant, Phantom panicle hydrangea, and Spanish bluebell.
