Notes
'Shawnee Chief' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Shawnee Chief') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It blooms in late spring with double, dark red flowers. The stiff stems hold the well proportioned blooms upright, and the flowers keep well in cold storage. The fine foliage holds its color until late in the fall.
Pairs well with Sedge, Japanese spirea, and Spanish bluebell.
