Notes

'Shishigashira' Japanese maple (Acer palmatum 'Shishigashira') is a tree for specimen, accent, and woodland use. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. It grows slowly into a broad shape, so give it room. Reddish-purple flowers open in early to late spring, and bees visit them.

Pairs well with Sassafras, Rising Sun Texas redbud, Bracken, and Garlic chives.
