Notes

'Staro' chive (Allium schoenoprasum 'Staro') is an herb for borders, containers, and food gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil of most types. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. It forms a clump of evergreen, fragrant leaves, and bees and butterflies visit the blooms in spring and summer. Staro is grown for the heaviest leaf, which suits processing and freezing.

Pairs well with Ruby Star coneflower, Carmen pepper, and Holy basil.
