Notes

Stiff sunflower (Helianthus pauciflorus) is a perennial for meadow plantings and low maintenance beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. The stem grows 3 to 6 feet tall and carries dark-green leaves. Deer rarely make it their first choice. Showy yellow sunflowers open on long stalks and draw butterflies, bees, and birds.

Pairs well with Prairie junegrass, Dark Towers beardtongue, Porcupinegrass, and Red Velvet yarrow.
