Notes

'Velvet Queen' sunflower (Helianthus annuus 'Velvet Queen') is an annual for borders, cut flowers, and pollinator gardens. It cannot take cold, and a freeze will end its season. This plant likes full sun and average to moist soil of most types. Burnt orange and maroon blooms surround a chocolate-brown center, and they are great for cutting. Deer tend to pass it by. Butterflies, bees, and birds visit the flowers.

Pairs well with Jewel nasturtium, Disco Mix Marigold French marigold, Red fescue, and Cerise Queen yarrow.
