Notes
'Straw Hat' sedge (Carex pensylvanica 'Straw Hat') is a grass for ground cover, shade gardens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to wet, sandy soil. It forms a slow growing clump that stands 9 to 12 inches tall and attracts butterflies and birds. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Add it to a bed where you want a soft, low carpet.
Pairs well with Sensitive fern, Cheerfulness daffodil, Northern bayberry, and Gooseneck loosestrife.
