Notes

'Stromboli' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Stromboli') is a shrub for borders, perennial beds, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Glossy, fiery-red semi-double flowers open in early to mid spring and smell sweet. The blooms stay red and do not fade. Irmtraud Rieck bred it, and the green leaves turn orange red in autumn.

Pairs well with Japanese spirea, Standing Ovation little bluestem, Carnaval De Nice tulip, and Polish Spirit clematis.
